Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to change things and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Reaction

The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
