Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes just 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
