Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
