Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.

Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.

Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.

Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the main straight.

Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.

Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's best.

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
