The Showrunner Shares He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... For Now.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular program coming to an end—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
