Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
